"Pavo" is Latin for peacock, and this is where the annual Peacock Festival name comes from. The town´s name was changed more than 100 years ago from McDonald, the name of one of its most prominent families, to "Pavo."The other prominent family, the Peacocks wanted the town named after them, but no one agreed. After some research, they discovered the latin word "pavo," and it was agreed to change the town´s name.
